TOUCH
Our annual ticketed 'Touch' concert held in March is a music feast for both the sophisticated listener and the music enthusiast. From duet items to 8-hands items as well as collaborations with a variety of instruments, audiences are immersed in a night of pure music-making and fun. One of the most important events in NUSPE, much effort goes into not just preparation for the performances, but also the publicity and marketing efforts. Past sponsors include Lee Foundation (2010, 2011, 2013), Alfred Publishing (2011-2013), Brand's (2013) and ElephaPrint (2013).
Key highlights of NUSPE's concert seasons include a feature of George Gershwin's music for Touch 2008 and a programme of rarely performed piano ensemble works for Touch 2009.
Touch 2011, held on 3rd March 2011 in Esplanade Recital Studio, once again saw a full-house turnout of music lovers. The programme featured a variety of music from the classic Mozart to exhilarating pieces transcribed for two pianos: Stravinsky's The Shrovetide Fair from Petrushka as well as Rachmaninov's Les Larmes (The Tears).
In 2013, in collaboration with NUS Art's Festival theme Open Questions, the concert, titled Genius or Nuts?, combined theatrical elements such as innovative lightings and dance elements to present snippets of 15 composers' characters and their music, digging into the controversies surrounding these colourful characters.
ExxonMobil Campus Concerts (EMCC)
Originally known as Campus Concerts when it was established in 1984, it adopted the name ExxonMobil Campus Concert s in 1999 to reflect its affiliation with its sole sponsor. The ongoing series of events presents fresh student talents as well as experienced artistes to the campus population and beyond.
The programme season runs annually from August to October and January to March.
NUSPE sees EMCC as a learning platform to nurture young and fresh members of the club. Frequently paired with senior members of the club, fresh performers are exposed to a variety of ensemble playing. Characterized by a light and relaxed atmosphere, past EMCC repertoire includes Saint-Saёn's Carnival of the Animals as well as notable works by Mozart.
Tri-University Concert
The Tri-University Concert is part of the piano festival Klaviesta organized by Singapore Management University (SMU). The Tri-University Concert brings together pianists from 3 tertiary institutions in an eclectic extravaganza packed with charming classical favourites and adventurous modern works.
Currently into its third year, the concert has been a crowd favorite with its distinct 20th century repertoire. Pieces featured by NUSPE includes Debussy's Petite Suite, Rachmaninov's Romance and Lutoslawski's Variations of Paganini.
An annual invitation by esplanade library, NUSPE pianists can be spotted in library@esplanade performing a variety of light classics and crowd pleasers during the end of the year, nearing the festive season of Christmas.
An internal concert that all members may sign up to perform for, Concertino is held every semester where members are open to perform anything as long as
the piece involves a piano. The possibilities are endless: solo, duet,
duo, 6-hands, 8-hands, violin and voice, and the list goes on.
